Choosing your swatch: A guide to the heart of Rising Sun Jewelry Co.

One of the most meaningful parts of creating a custom piece at Rising Sun Jewelry Co. is selecting the swatch that will become the centerpiece of your jewelry. Every swatch is more than just fabric — it carries a story, a connection, and a piece of history that makes your jewelry truly one-of-a-kind.

Where the Swatches Come From

The fabrics I use have an incredible backstory. Originally, swatches like these were distributed in 1971 with The Other Sides record release. Since then, they’ve found their way into the hands of trusted private collectors who are well known in the Elvis world. Today, I’m honored to source directly from these collectors so that each swatch comes with clear provenance and authenticity, backed by Elvis Artifacts Authentication Services.

Each inclusion is handled with respect and care in my Alabama workshop. I cut, seal, and set the fabrics securely so they remain beautiful for years to come. No two swatches are exactly alike, which makes your piece as unique as your story.

✨ Elvis History Spotlight:

The Other Sides (1971)

In 1971, a special release called The Other Sides – Worldwide Gold Award Hits, Volume 2 was issued. To make it even more exciting for fans, pieces of Elvis-owned clothing were included as collectible swatches alongside the records. These tiny fabric squares gave fans the rare chance to own something directly connected to Elvis himself.

More than 50 years later, those original swatches are treasured within the Elvis collector community. Rising Sun Jewelry Co. is proud to carry on that legacy, using authenticated swatches from this historical release (now carefully preserved by private collectors) in custom jewelry that fans can cherish for a lifetime.

A Note on Color Variation

Because each swatch is truly one-of-a-kind, there can sometimes be subtle differences in how the fabric appears once it is set under resin. Resin naturally magnifies and deepens the fibers, which may slightly shift the color tone — for example, a lighter fabric might appear a shade richer or darker once sealed. Textures, patterns, and weaves also react differently, giving each finished piece a unique look.

Rather than a flaw, this variation is part of the beauty of the process. It means your jewelry won’t just hold history — it will have a character all its own, unlike any other piece made.

How to Choose a Swatch

When you visit my website, you’ll find a dedicated Swatches Page under the main menu. Each fabric option is photographed so you can see its colors, textures, and patterns. Some are vibrant and bold, others are soft and subtle. I always recommend thinking about what speaks to you — maybe it’s a color that reminds you of a favorite song, a pattern that echoes your personal style, or simply the one that tugs at your heart the most.

Once you’ve decided, you can note your swatch choice in the customization section when you place your order. If you’re not sure, don’t worry — I’m always happy to help guide you through the process and send extra photos if needed.

Where to Find Them on the Website

On the homepage of Rising Sun Jewelry Co., you’ll see “Swatches” listed in the navigation menu. Clicking there will take you to the full collection of available fabrics, along with descriptions and photos. This makes it easy to match your favorite swatch to any ring, pendant, bracelet, or pair of earrings you’re designing.

Swatch FAQ

Will my swatch look exactly like the photo?

Not always. Fabric may appear slightly different once set under resin because the resin deepens colors and highlights textures. This is a natural part of the process and gives your jewelry its own unique beauty.

What happens if my chosen swatch sells out?

Some swatches are extremely limited. If your first choice is no longer available, I’ll contact you personally to share the closest alternatives and help you select one that feels right for your piece.

Can I see more photos before I decide?

Of course! If you’d like additional pictures or close-ups of a fabric, just reach out to me. I’m happy to provide extra images to make sure you feel confident in your choice.

Do all jewelry pieces use swatches?

Most custom pieces can include a swatch if you’d like, but some designs work better with certain sizes of fabric. If you’re unsure, let me know what you’re envisioning, and I’ll guide you toward the best options.

Is there a right or wrong choice?

Not at all! Each swatch carries the same meaningful history. The “right” choice is simply the one that feels most special to you.

A Final Thought

Choosing a swatch is a deeply personal decision. It’s more than a fabric — it’s a bridge to a moment in time, and it becomes part of a piece you’ll wear close to your heart. Every time I create a piece, I’m reminded of the honor it is to preserve these little treasures in jewelry that carries meaning, memory, and love.
